Perfect 10 coaches votes for Pingelly product Tim English after superb AFL return for Western Bulldogs
Pingelly-raised Tim English has made a spectacular return from a stint on the sidelines to guide the Western Bulldogs to a 101-point thrashing of West Coast at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.
English was initially sidelined with a hamstring injury and then had a serious case of the flu, missing the Bulldogs last five matches.
The rising ruckman bounced back in wonderful fashion, collecting 25 disposals to go with 28 hit-outs, seven clearances, four tackles, 405m gained and a goal in a best-afield display as the the Bulldogs thumped the home side 25.11 (161) to 9.6 (60).
English was awarded a perfect 10 for coaches votes from Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge and Eagles coach Adam Simpson for his captivating performance.
Beveridge was delighted with the 24-year-old’s return to the side.
“He had a tremendous return, he was really influential,” he said. “He’s a great example of a ruckman in the competition who plays the game very well outside of the stoppage.
“He’s a very good turnover ruckman, he doesn’t just get behind the ball, he’ll spread forward and link up in chains.
“It’s one thing we’ve definitely made sure we don’t coach out of Tim’s game, it’s him playing to his strengths.
“He’s adjusted the balance of his defensive mindset and his want to spread forward a little bit this year, and I think it’s paying dividends for us.”
