Wagin’s sportsperson of the year will be in action with her favourite horse Jimmy when the Funorama and Woolorama Mounted Games begin at Wagin Woolorama. Chesney Dawson will be one of the star attractions of the Horses In Action section which is now less than a month away. The 15-year-old was selected to represent Pony Club Australia last year when her team made the trip to China to compete on the world stage. She was named Wagin’s sportsperson of the year last month at the Shire’s Australia Day ceremony. Chesney, who has been riding for six years, said this year’s Funorama would be action-packed. “There will be hacking, showjumping and handy pony games as well as the mounted games,” she said. When asked what she liked most about competing, Chesney said she “really enjoys jumping”. “I’ve grown up riding, my mum always had horses,” she said. Jimmy is her main competitive horse. Competitors can only enter one competition — the mounted games or Funorama — at a cost of $25 a rider. The course designer this year is the highly regarded Kim Lindsay who is based in Perth. The Woolorama Mounted Games pairs will take place in the trot training area and will feature under-12, under-15, under-18 and over-25 age groups. Mounted Games Association WA will post the list of races on its Facebook page one week before the event with other games to be posted on the day.
