Brookton’s Chloe Gault wins 7NEWS Young Achiever award for volunteering with St John WA

Brookton’s Chloe Gault has won the Regional Service Award at the 2022 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards ceremony for her volunteering advocacy. St John sub-centre Brookton chairman Cliff Fishlock nominated Ms Gault for the annual awards in the regional service category for her “instrumental” work encouraging young people to volunteer. The 28-year-old was chosen out of a field of young achievers from across the State and was presented with the award at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth on May 27. Ms Gault said she was surprised when her name was read out. “I was a bit overwhelmed, I didn’t really expect to win so it was a bit of a shock,” she said. “It was unbelievable to be in a room full of other young inspiring people.” Ms Gault started volunteering at her local sub-centre at 19 and has gone on to become a volunteer ambulance officer, committee member and training officer where she shares her clinical skills and knowledge. She has also volunteered as a committee member for the Brookton and Districts Historical Society and for the Brookton Women’s Hockey Club. It was through her connection in the sporting community that she was able to encourage other young people to volunteer. More than a dozen members of the Brookton sub-centre as well as family and friends travelled to Perth with Ms Gault for the awards ceremony. “There were 19 of us that went to Perth, including family and friends as well as my Brookton St John family,” Ms Gault said. “It was really lovely that they could come down and spend the night with me.” During her speech, Ms Gault thanked the community for their support. “I said it was a huge honour to receive the award and congratulated all the other nominees,” she said. “I thanked my family and the Brookton community as well as the St John ambulance service. “I also said a big thankyou to Cliff Fishlock for nominating me. “I’m very appreciative and very humbled by all of this.” Ms Gault will continue her nursing studies at the Narrogin South Regional TAFE while working almost full-time.
