Wickepin remain undefeated in the 2020 Upper Great Southern Football League season after withstanding a strong challenge at home from reigning premiers Boddington in round four on Saturday. In a game of two halves, the Warriors sprang out of the blocks in the first half booting six goals before the Eagles kicked six of their own in the second half to almost pinch the win. Five goals were kicked in the last quarter, three going the way of the visitors but it wasn’t enough to overrun the Warriors, as they hung on 10.13 (73) to 8.12 (60). Ryan Melvin kicked three goals in the win while Dion Anthony (two goals), Sam McGillvray and Aidan Omodei were also solid. For the Eagles, Ryan McKinlay booted three majors with Beaux Venables, Nathan Introvinge and Matthew Giumelli in the best. Wagin notched their second win of the season, overrunning Katanning Wanderers in the last quarter in difficult conditions at Matera Oval on Saturday. In blustery conditions where only eight majors were kicked, the visitors trailed by two points but an inaccurate Bulldogs side finished powerfully kicking 2.7 in the final term to run out 20-point winners. The Wanderers led at quarter-time after booting the sole major of the term but that quickly turned into an eight-point deficit after the Bulldogs slammed on three goals with the wind in the second term. However the Wanderers responded in the third with the aid of the breeze slotting the only major to reduce the margin to two points going into the last term. Matthew Marinoni and Daniel Macaulay both kicked two majors for the Bulldogs in the 5.15 (45) to 3.7 (25) result. Ryan Pontillo, Reece Nicholson, Deklan Georgy and Mitchell Banks all worked hard for the Wanderers. Williams pushed their way into the top four after holding off a persistent Brookton-Pingelly by 15 points in Brookton on Sunday. The Cats led by nine points at half-time and after one goal apiece in the third term the margin was reduced to seven points. The visitors kicked the only major of the last term to record a 6.9 (45) 3.12 (30) victory. Tom Vellios and Glen Medlan bagged two goals each in the win while Riley Cunningham, Isaac Christoforou and Cameron Stedman were also important. For the Panthers Lloyd Padwick finished with two goals as Callan Eddy, Jacob Razario and Jorda Hughes were strong contributors.
