Upper Great Southern Cricket Association believe a great mix of youth and experience can hold them in good stead as they look to return to the Boan Cup final when senior country week begins in Perth on Sunday. The Upper Great Southern will be looking to challenge for their third A-section title in eight years at the week-long tournament. Uppers will field a very strong side in A-section as they look to make amends for last year’s semifinal exit against Albany and Districts. They went on to finish fourth overall in A-section. A second Uppers side will compete in B-section this year and will be hungry for more success after winning C-section last year. Upper Great Southern’s first XI is booming with talent including former WA Country XI captain Rodney Ford, young guns Dylan Kirk, Bailey Parsons and Jordan Hughes and veterans Kalan Joyce, Perrin Quartermaine and Arron Quartermaine. The six leading run scorers in the UGSCA all feature in the 14-man squad. Brothers Grady and Brock Francis will only take part in one and two games respectively while Bryan Hardie will feature in only one fixture. Ford will captain the A-section side and believes batting will be their strength. “We are excited for a good week of tough cricket,” he said. “We are playing against three of the best associations in the State in the first round. “We have a very good side in with a great mix of youth and experience. “We are looking to make amends for last year, we were disappointed with not making the final last year.” With A-section split into two divisions, Upper Great Southern take on Bunbury and Districts on Sunday before facing Eastern Goldfields and then Albany and Districts to determine who they meet in Thursday’s crossover semifinals. After taking out the C-section grand final last year, Upper Great Southern have moved up into B-section for their 2022 campaign. Upper Great Southern will meet South Midlands on the first day before tackling Great Southern and then Bunbury and Districts in their final regular match on Wednesday before play-offs on the final two days.
