Top four in the Upper Great Southern Football League set for exciting finals series
The top four in the Upper Great Southern Football League has officially been decided with two rounds left in the regular season.
Katanning Wanderers, Brookton-Pingelly, Williams and Kukerin-Dumbleyung will all play finals in season 2021.
The Cougars recorded an important 21-point victory over Narrogin Hawks in round 12 on Saturday to cement a top-four spot.
Wickepin were the team that could have forced their way into the top four, but the Warriors went down to Wagin.
A strong second half ensured the Cougars finished 9.9 (63) to 5.12 (42) winners over the Hawks.
The Cougars led by 10 points at quarter-time but the Hawks responded with three unanswered goals in the second term to hold a nine-point half-time advantage.
It was all the Cougars from there as they piled on six goals to one in the second half to seal their seventh win of the season.
Nathan Phillips starred in the win with six goals and he was well supported by Brodie Kingston, Ryan Smith, Jordan Jackson, Peter Joyce and Marshall Browne.
The Hawks were best served by Darryl Anderson, Blair Forrest, William Graham, Jack Walsh, Ryan Fleay and Perrin Quartermaine, but their side fell to a 10th loss of the season.
The Bulldogs notched their third win of the season after holding off an inaccurate Warriors outfit to prevail by 16 points in Wickepin on Sunday.
The visitors kicked four goals in the first term and were held scoreless in the second, but held a 23-point lead at the final change.
The Warriors could only manage seven behinds in the final stanza, going down 3.13 (31) to 7.5 (47).
Kyle and Bryn Hammersley were important in the win, along with Alex Michelon, Brodie Bates, Mark Allington and Daniel Roderick.
The Warriors’ best players were Jaxon Ramsay, Samuel Fortini, Ricky Cary, Fraser Wittwer and Matthew Jukes.
Meanwhile, Williams finished comfortable 79-point winners over Boddington courtesy of nine first half goals.
Addison Dew kicked five majors in the 16.16 (112) to 4.9 (33) triumph.
