The Narrogin and District Eight Ball Association held its grand finals at the Cornwall Hotel last Saturday, as Duke 1 emerged as A-grade champions. In front of a large and vocal crowd, Duke 1 prevailed in a tight contest over Riff Raff to claim the 2019-20 A-grade title. The two teams were locked together at 3-3 after the first round of singles and then Riff Raff hit the front after winning two frames of doubles. Duke hit back winning the next three singles games seven frames to five before Riff Raff won the next two to take the game right to the wire. A win in the next singles games handed Duke an 8-6 victory as they claimed the A-grade premiership. The B-grade grand final between Bush Chooks and Outcasts was also a close affair. Outcasts won four singles frames to hit the front early but Bush Chooks dominated the doubles winning all three frames to peg the score back to 5-4. Bush Chooks levelled up at six apiece before the winning move came from Outcasts as they won the next two frames to clinch the B-grade title, 8-6. Knights prevailed in a tight C-grade decider that began grand final day. A fast start from Knights had them winning five frames in the first round of singles before their opponents Blokes Advice replied by claiming all three doubles frames. The two sides traded frames and it was seven-all heading into the decider, which Knights won to be crowned C-grade champs. Season awards were also announced after the grand finals with Raf Corasaniti the club champion ahead of runner-up Alan Fletcher. Fletcher claimed the highest percentage trophy and Braydon Cutri was named the Bruce Watson most improved player. The Shanksy most outstanding contribution to the association award went to Mark Gooley and the Shanks Family best junior was Mason Kulker, while Jack Nankivell won the president’s award. The association’s annual general meeting will be held on July 22 at 7am at the Duke of York Hotel.
