Wickepin 1 recorded an important 13-goal win against Williams 1 in round 12 of the Narrogin and Districts Netball Association A1 competition to strengthen their finals chances.

With a congested A1 ladder and only two points separating Wickepin and Williams going into the Friday night clash, it was an important game for both teams.

However, Wickepin prevailed and moved four points clear in the top four.

Wickepin got off to a quick start, dominating the court, and were up by 10 goals at quarter-time.

Williams settled in the second quarter and narrowed the margin at half-time to get back into the game.

It was a great contest between Wickepin goal shooter Deb Patmore and Williams goal keeper Clare Hardie.

Patmore held her space well and was able to get the ball in a good position, but Hardie had a formidable lean over the shot and dominated rebounds.

Wickepin stretched their lead in the third quarter, with Danara Astbury providing consistent leads and defensive pressure mid-court.

Some quick drives and accurate shooting from Williams goal shooter Mackenzie Williams in the final quarter, fed well by Tayla Battley, helped Williams win the quarter.

However, that was not enough as Wickepin won 52-39 to maintain their spot in the top four with three rounds remaining.

Flames 1 held their spot on top of the ladder after prevailing 52-45 over Pingelly 1.

Meanwhile, Wagin 1 downed Cuballing 1 51-41 in their A1 contest.
