Narrogin residents and business owners are encouraged to wrap their house or business in festive spirit for Narrogin’s annual Christmas lights competition. The event organised by the Narrogin Shire and Chamber of Commerce is on between December 9 and 14. Participating residents in Narrogin and Highbury are asked to have their light displays switched on between 7-9 pm on those nights for the Chambers drive-by judging panel to review. Narrogin shire president Leigh Ballard encouraged everyone to join in the Christmas spirit. “You can nominate a neighbour’s display that you think is worthy of a visit by the judges by contacting the shire and they will post the address on their Facebook page for others to be able to enjoy,” Cr Ballard said. “By encouraging neighbours to get out and about, chat with one another and share in the spirit of Christmas we can build relations that help grow our community.” No registration is required and the event is open to anyone who has Christmas lights displayed on their home or business. Last year’s competition was won by Alan and Lindy Donaldson of Fox Street. Judges described their property as the clear winner, with its combination of wooden cut-outs and lights covering the whole yard. Prizes in the form of vouchers are up for grabs for the best home and best business with $250 for the best house as well as runner-up prizes for second and third and $200 for the best business. The vouchers can be redeemed at local businesses that are members of the Narrogin Chamber of Commerce.
