Wickepin 1 secured a place in the top four of the Narrogin and Districts Netball Association A1 competition with a 15-goal upset victory over Flames 1 in the final round on Saturday.

Heading into the final round, Wickepin sat two points above Cuballing 1 and with the latter losing and the former prevailing, Wickepin stitched up fourth spot.

Wickepin came out firing to lead by 11 goals at the first change with a great shooting combination of Deb Patmore and Helen Wyatt.

Flames settled into their games in the second quarter with 11 goals scored by both teams.

Flames’ Ashtyn Steer and Chelsea Mulcahy had to work hard against the defence of Hilary Wittwer and Emily Davey.

Jessica Daniels and Melita Davey played hard in defence for Flames trying to shut down the shooters but consistent shooting by Wickepin gave few opportunities for turnovers.

At times movement of the ball through the centre court was exceptionally fast and a pleasure to watch.

Wickepin got on top again in the third stanza and increased their margin to 16 goals.

Flames fought hard in the last quarter, but could not make up the difference, Wickepin prevailing 51-36.

In the other A1 contests, Wagin 1 finished on top after a 64-44 win over Williams 1 while Pingelly 1 defeated Cuballing 55-44 to end the latter team’s season.
