Racing and Wagering WA stewards give all clear to Narrogin race track ahead of Sunday’s cup meeting

Narrogin’s biggest meeting of the season will go ahead on Sunday after the track was passed fit to race on by Racing and Wagering WA last week. Narrogin Racing’s last meeting on January 7 was abandoned after a track inspection just minutes before the running of race one due to a dry and discoloured section of grass. But RWWA stewards inspected the track last Thursday and passed it fit to host the $100,000 Iron Jack Narrogin Cup (1900m) this Sunday, the feature race on an eight-race program. RWWA steward Harold Taylor confirmed the track was safe to resume racing on. “We had Stephen Jerrard and Martin Vickers go and do a track inspection last Thursday,” Taylor said. “They did a complete lap of the track and were satisfied with what they saw. The troubled section was about the 300m mark in the middle of the track that was dry but that has fully covered up again now. “The club will send us pictures leading up to the meeting but we are satisfied that there is not much chance of it deteriorating before the meeting.” Narrogin Race and Pace manager Cathi Trefort-Budby was pleased the club could host its major thoroughbred meeting. “The stewards came and did a track inspection last Thursday and gave it the all clear,” she said. “We have done additional hand-watering on the one trouble section around the 300 to 350m mark as they turn for home. “The irrigation wasn’t quite getting to that bit so we have hand-watered that bit and adjusted the irrigation to make sure it gets water and gets grass cover like the rest of the track. “It’s great that we can hold our biggest meeting of the season after losing our last meeting. “It should be a good day track side.”
