Pingelly win a thriller, Williams also on the winners list in round four of the UGSCA

Pingelly-Noonebin held their nerve in round four of the Upper Great Southern Cricket Association against Wandering on Saturday. After batting first and posting 9-150 off their 45 overs, they were able to notch a narrow five-run victory. When Blake Warburton was caught for 12, it looked as though Pingelly-Noonebin had the game won needing just one more wicket for victory and their opponents still needing 27 for victory. However, Bill Schorer and Blake White held tough and put together a 21-run partnership to give their side some hope of winning but Schorer was bowled for 15 on the second last ball as Wandering finished all out for 145. Brett Blechynden was the hero for Pingelly-Noonebin with the ball, claiming 4-19 including the final wicket while Jesse Heywood and Matthew Durmanich each took two wickets. Bryan Hardie made 41 at the top of the order for Wandering, hitting five fours. Jack Blechynden and Cameron Hill both made 29 for Pingelly-Noonebin as three other batsmen posted scores in the 20s to help them to get to 150. Lewis Parsons took 4-51 for Wandering off 10 overs. A brilliant century from Rodney Ford helped Williams continue their perfect start to the season in a rain-affected match with Dumbleyung. Ford along with Mitchell Duff helped Williams post 3-220 as they shared in a 122-run partnership, finishing not out on 116 and 51 respectively. In reply Dumbleyung could only post 5-124 as Kalan Joyce made 48 and Ryan Taylor chipped in with 29. Steven Ford took 2-22 for Williams. The game between Lake Grace and Cuballing was a washout in the 37th over of Lake Grace’s batting innings. Meanwhile, Towns’ Perrin Quartermaine was a part of WA Invitational XI’s 117-run victory over Peel Cricket Association in round two of the Belt Up Country Cup on Sunday. Quartermaine was caught for two opening the batting before his side made 6-259, thanks to 122 from Bevan Bennell. Peel were bowled out for 142 in reply.
