Over $4000 in fines issued after eight people front court over Narrogin civil disorder incidents

Details revealed in court have shed light on how an extraordinary night unfolded on the streets of Narrogin when about 50 people became embroiled in a fight earlier this month. Eight people received fines totalling $4150 in Narrogin Magistrates Court on February 20 on charges stemming from civil disorder incidents that took place on February 2. About 11.30pm on the night in question, police attended Doney Street after receiving reports that a large group of people were fighting. Police prosecutor Sgt Phil Milne said that Isiah Randell Jetta-Bolton, Jeffery Alan Anderson, Donelle Raelene Ugle, Sonia Anne Kickett, Ty-Rone Jason Kickett and Kyle Jason Bernard Kickett were among those engaged in the conflict. Donelle Ugle, who told her counsel she had gone to Doney Street to pick up her son, admitted to pushing a man, causing him to fall backwards while Ty-Rone Kickett was arrested after he refused to leave and used threatening language. Ty-Rone Kickett said his father, who has terminal cancer, was pushed over by a woman. Jetta-Bolton’s legal representative said his client was trying to break up an argument but ended up becoming involved. Kyle Kickett, who was seen approaching people with a baseball bat, told officers he was trying to scare the other party away. The 29-year-old was hit with an axe in the melee, needing stitches for his injury. He said he had driven to Doney Street to pick up his cousin and the bat had been left in the car by a nephew who plays T-ball. Magistrate Erin O’Donnell said Donelle Ugle’s assault was on the lower end of seriousness but that Jetta-Bolton, 28, was at an age where he should know better. The magistrate also said that she understood Ty-Rone Kickett’s frustration over what happened to his father but that he was told to leave. She also said that while Kyle Kickett’s possession of the bat was possibly opportunistic, that didn’t reduce the seriousness of his offending. The group was dispersed but the fight flared up again at Narrogin Hospital shortly after midnight on February 3. Anderson, Kelly Lee Ugle and Chadd Lee Kickett were all found to have used threatening language at the hospital. Anderson said he had gone to collect his children and to receive treatment for his injuries while Kelly Ugle said she had taken her father to hospital and was told by police to come back when the other side had left. “I was angry about what’s been happening,” Chadd Kickett told the court. “I’m only human.” Sonia Kickett was also engaged in the conflict at the hospital. The 49-year-old said she was upset after people with less serious injuries were seen before her son who had been hit with an axe. “I’m a mother first, at the end of the day, I’m a mother,” she told the court. “I got told to leave because I voiced an opinion — they could have dealt with it better that night.” Magistrate O’Donnell acknowledged Kickett’s frustration but said police had to make decisions quickly. Sgt Milne said the civil disorder stemmed from ongoing issues between families while Magistrate O’Donnell said it was “part of something bigger” and “takes on more seriousness” for that reason. “This is a really undesirable situation all round,” Magistrate O’Donnell said. Jetta-Bolton pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour in public and was fined $600. Anderson, 50, pleaded guilty to two charges of disorderly behaviour in public and was fined $600. Donelle Ugle, 42, pleaded guilty to common assault and was fined $650. Kelly Lee Ugle, 20, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour in public and was fined $400. Chadd Lee Kickett, 48, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour in public and was fined $300. Sonia Anne Kickett, 49, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour in public and was fined $350. Ty-Rone Kickett, 30, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour in public and was fined $350. Kyle Kickett, 29, pleaded guilty to being armed or pretending to be armed in a way that may cause fear and was fined $900. On February 6, police said 14 people had been charged over the civil disorder incidents including a 14-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old female who was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
