A new pump track is on course to be finished in Kulin over the coming month as work continues on the Shire’s All Ages Activity Precinct.

Planning for the project started last year when letters were received from Year 8 students at Kulin District High School.

The letters featured suggestions and requests for youth-focused amenities, including a teen playground, hangout, aquatic centre and skate park.

The Shire allocated $330,000 to the project in its 2020-21 budget for design and construction.

Shire of Kulin president Barry West said the pump track would complement the skate park and youth hangout zone to provide a dedicated space for youth.

“The pump track’s probably a month away from completion and the pump track’s actually combined with a skate park as well,” he said.

“We’ve got a youth precinct there (with) a bit of a hangout kind of area up on top where you start the pump track and skate park.

“There is a half-court with the back wall there as well so you can play tennis up against the back wall and incorporated into that is a basketball ring.

“Young people can hang out, get a bit of exercise and it’s a bit of fun ... right in the middle of our town.”

Mr West said while Kulin had good sporting facilities, the precinct would help people who were not as interested in traditional sports to stay active.
