Work has started on the former beach volleyball courts at the Narrogin YMCA, with the courts being removed to transform the space into a grassed multi-use community area.

The new space will provide a venue for outdoor performances, opportunities for hire for events, and an outdoor cinema.

Shire president Leigh Ballard said the project would be a much better use of the site, and a great addition to the Narrogin community.

“I think it will make the area more user-friendly, and more accessible to everyone, not to mention look much more attractive from the road,” he said.

The area will be fully grassed and accessible to the public, with a 1.2m pool fence along the front.

“It’s great, because it means people can use it for picnics, and the swim club will be able to use it for dry training,” Cr Ballard said.

“Parents with smaller kids will have the ability to use it for birthday parties, which will be ideal with the grass and the ability to have the kids fenced in for safety.”

The projected is expected to be completed later this month.
