Narrogin Hawks Football Club will look to their leaders rather than recruit in a bid to go one step further

Narrogin Hawks Football Club will look to experience and leadership to take them one step further this season as they get ready for their round one clash in the Upper Great Southern Football League next month. New Hawks coach Steven Boughton couldn’t confirm any changes from last season but said the club was in a great position to have established leaders that have been at the club since their junior years. The Hawks will be looking to go one step further after finishing fourth on the ladder last season before a brilliant run through the finals, eventually going down to Boddington by 20 points in the grand final. With just 23 days until the season gets under way, Boughton said numbers at training had consistently been around the 25 mark. “This local talent is supplemented by Perth-based players who will bring experience and tenacious commitment,” Boughton said. “The Narrogin Hawks recruitment committee has sought to galvanise existing team structures with experience and leadership. “During these unprecedented and rapidly evolving times, the Hawks committee, coaching staff, players and volunteers have been working tirelessly in the background to bring football back to our beloved Clayton Road Oval.” Narrogin will tackle Brookton-Pingelly in the opening round at Clayton Road Oval and Boughton said the players are motivated to go one step further. “The players are rejuvenated by the planned recommencement of football, with scratch matches scheduled for the next two weekends,” he said. “We will be playing scratch matches against Northam Railways and Narembeen Football Club. “In my first year as the league coach, I am eager to continue to support inclusivity in sport, cultivate local talent and development and build on the recent years of finals success.”
