Juniors taste success in Perth

Narrogin Junior Basketball Association tasted success at the Basketball WA Country Championships, winning the under-16 girls division three title in Perth at the weekend. Narrogin sent teams to Perth for the under-16 girls’, under-18 girls’ and under-16 boys’ comps, all competing in division three. The under-16 girls started in terrific form, winning four games and losing only one on Saturday before splitting their final two qualifiers on Sunday to secure a grand final berth. Up against Karratha in the grand final, Narrogin held their nerve in a tense finish to win by two points. Alannah Thorne was named the grand final’s most valuable player in the 33-31 win over Karratha as they claimed the silverware against much bigger regional centres. After three wins on the opening day, Narrogin’s under-18 girls won both their Sunday fixtures to snatch second and progress to the grand final. Esperance proved too strong for a Narrogin side hit by injury, winning 39-27 in the end. The under-16 boys finished the weekend with two wins and three losses to place fourth overall. The club offered thanks to all coaches, managers and scorers for all their efforts over the weekend. It wrapped up a very successful country championships for the Narrogin juniors, winning two titles while two other teams finished runners-up.
