Oktoberfest is coming to Pingelly after a serious effort from one local builder to get the inaugural festival off the ground.

Inspired by the success of the famous Kulin Bush Races, the profits from the day will be put back into the community to improve accommodation options.

Builder Steve Davis is the driving force behind the event.

“Our accommodation’s pretty bad so I want to put money into accommodation to try and get people to our town. I’m hoping to raise enough money to be able to do that,” he said.

“I’ve gone in with the Pingelly Hotel and I’ve gone in with the Pingelly Tourism Group and said ‘if you help me, I'll donate all the ticket sales to you less what its cost me to run it’.

“It’s a good way of bringing the town together.”

On Saturday, October 30, the Pingelly Tourism Group grounds will be transformed into a Bavarian hall.

The vision is for a marquee to be packed out with imported German beers while authentic German food trucks keep the crowds happy.

Entertainment will also play a key role with Sophie Jane performing on the day before Daren Reid & the Soul City Groove.

While free camping will be offered, Mr Davis said buses had also been called in to help people from surrounding towns to the north and south attend.

“We’re going to deck it out into a Bavarian hall. It will look like you’re walking into a German bar,” he said.

“Inside the bar we’ve got all these mobile bars we’ve hired and all the beers will be on tap.

“I’ve decided to hire two buses ... but people have to contact me. I have to know that people want to be picked up. Plus I have to do a timetable so I have to know in advance.”
