Guest speakers to share their knowledge at WIFE September seminar

Women in Farming Enterprises will be hosting their September seminar in Wagin with the organisation busily compiling a panel of guest speakers to share their insights.

Started by five women with a vision for learning and empowerment in 2009, WIFE has become a valued place for women across WA to share farm and business knowledge. Eleven branches stretch across the south of WA, with each branch taking turns to host a seminar each year.

WIFE executive officer Roxanne Morrissey said that before the organisation formed there were limited opportunities for women to share their knowledge in a supportive environment.

“There was no forum for women involved in the business side of the organisation to exchange information and put ideas out ... in that safe and non-judgemental environment,” Ms Morrissey said.

As one of their biggest yearly events, the September 8 seminar will present another opportunity for this community to come together.

Members and sponsors will be given the chance to listen to guest speakers like esteemed meteorologist Neil Bennett.

The event at Wagin will also involve a meet and greet session, allowing people to mix and mingle in a relaxed environment the evening before the seminar.

“Whoever is hosting in conjunction with the board decides ‘yep, these are some areas that it would be good to cover’,” Ms Morrissey said.

“It allows our members to come together and meet face to face.

“The seminars are important to gain and gather information and also to network so there's a chance to talk and gain further knowledge.

“For the meet and greets, they're relatively new and we’ve only had them going for the past couple of years.

“It’s a very informal event. Whoever is there is welcome to come along to meet with the sponsors and chat with other members and it gives sponsors a chance to meet with other members.”
