Classic cars hit the road for 2022 Variety Bash to raise vital funds for children’s charity

A convoy of colourful classic cars departed Hyden on Saturday for an eight-day road trip to Northam to raise money for children’s charity Variety WA. Forty-nine teams from across WA converged in Hyden on Friday for the opening night before setting out on their journey to Northam via Esperance, Bremer Bay, Albany and Kulin. The annual event aims to raise vital funds for WA children who are disadvantaged, sick or living with disability. The convoy stopped at local schools to present Variety WA grants to individuals or community groups to help with technology, vehicle modifications, wheelchairs and scholarships. “The Bash is one of the country’s most iconic events, creating friendships for life and bringing a ‘carnival on wheels’ to remote locations all over the country,” Variety WA chief executive Tony Hume said. “Our participants fund their own event costs, including creating and maintain the magnificent Bash cars, and spend all year fundraising to help WA kids who are living with sickness, disadvantage or with a disability. “Our Variety participants care deeply for the kids of WA and it is a real pleasure to be with our Variety community on the Bash and share the excitement with this huge-hearted, generous community.” The Bash convoy is due to pass through Albany on September 1 before making its way to Kulin on September 2 and crossing the finish line in Northam about noon on September 3.
