Candidates to battle it out in Local Government Elections while Shire president set for another term

Shire of Narrogin president Leigh Ballard will be re-elected unopposed as eight other candidates battle it out for five seats in this year’s local government elections. Having been involved in local government since 2011, first as a councillor, then as mayor and now as Shire president, Mr Ballard will enter his second decade on council. “With 10 years local government experience I understand the commitment, compliance and governance needed to drive the Shire forward,” Mr Ballard said. “I’ll continue to drive Narrogin on the progressive path it has been travelling over the past 10 years and support council with my experience.” Nominations closed on September 9 with election day on October 16. Interested in town planning and progress, I support a balanced approach with a preservation of heritage, tourism and community values.” Michelle Parker “The Shire is growing fast. With cultural diversity and generations of experience, it’s time to seize opportunities and be the best Shire possible. “Value for money and getting a good deal for ratepayers and residents is my priority.” Raylene Storey “I am a Wilmen/Balardong Noongar Aboriginal woman. I was born in Narrogin and grew up on the Trefort’s Hillside Farm by my grandparents. “I would be honoured to work with the council members to motivate and empower the Narrogin region for a better future and outcome in life.” Tamara Alexander “Tamara is passionate about regional development, supporting small business and fostering a safe, fun and caring community in Narrogin. “She believes in equal opportunity for regions and if elected will focus on looking for ways to create a better environment to support the Narrogin community and businesses to thrive.” Tim Wiese “I have been serving as a councillor for the Shire of Narrogin for 10 years, the last five years as Shire deputy president. “I have a strong belief that sound planning and good governance provides for solid long-term achievements.” Brian Seale “I have been an elected member for the past five years and I am keen to serve the community further. “I hold a postgraduate university degree as a Master of Business Administration, majoring in local government management.
