Bushfire emergency warning for Wickepin townsite and parts of the Shire of Narrogin

Residents in the Wickepin townsite must leave now or prepare to shelter in their homes as a bushfire emergency warning is in place for parts of Wickepin and an area east of Narrogin.

A bushfire emergency warning is in place for people in an area bound by Avery Road and Fleay Road to the north, Ten Mile Road and Toolbin Road N to the east, Narrogin Valley Road to the south and Borgas Road and Kemps Place to the west including Wickepin townsite in parts of in parts of Boundain, Yilliminning, Wickepin, Malyalling, Nomas Lake, Wandering, Toolbin in the Shires of Wickepin and Narrogin.

There is a threat to lives and homes, residents in the area are in danger and need to act immediately to survive.

The alert level for this fire has been upgraded due to increased fire behaviour.

WHAT TO DO — EMERGENCY WARNING

  • If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place.
  • Do not wait and see, leaving at the last minute is deadly.
  • Close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.
  • If you cannot leave, you need to get ready to shelter in your home.
  • Go to a room in your home away from the fire front and make sure you can easily escape.
  • Choose a room with two exits and water such as a kitchen or laundry.
  • If you are not at home, it’s too dangerous to return.

About 100 firefighters are on the scene and are actively fighting the blaze and aerial support has been sent to assist ground crews.

The bushfire is moving in an easterly direction with two-metre high flames, according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

An evacuation centre has been set up in the Pingelly Recreation and Cultural Centre.

Kondinin and Wickepin Primary School will be closed on Monday.

The bushfire was reported about 10.30am on Sunday and started near the intersection of Williams-Kondinin Road and Armstrong Road in Wandering.

There is a number of road closures including Narrogin-Wickepin Rd (Williams Kondinin Rd) from Narrogin to Wickepin and Harris Smith Road from the Rabbit Proof Fence to Wickepin.

Williams-Kondinin Road will also be impacted by fire.

For people in Wickepin townsite, it is safe to leave on Wickepin Pingelly Road.

A bushfire watch and act is in place for people in an area bound by Williams-Kondinin Road to the north (including areas just north of Williams-Kondinin Road), Rabbit Proof Fence Road to the east, Spencer Road and Ward Road to the south, and Borgas Road to the west in parts of Harrismith, Boundain, Nomans Lake, Tincurrin, Wogolin, East Wickepin in the Shires of Narrogin and Wickepin.

There is a possible threat to lives and home as a fire is approaching in the area and conditions are changing.

If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear.

A bushfire ADVICE is in place for people in an area east of Rabbit Proof Fence Road and bounded by Williams Kondinin Road to the north, Pyne Road and Riseborough Road to the east ad Springhurst Road to the south in parts of Jitarning, Dudinin, North Moulyinning and North Kukerin in the Shires of Kulin and Dumbleyung.

There is no threat to lives and homes.

Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date if the situation changes.

Narrogin-Wickepin Rd (Williams Kondinin Rd) from Narrogin to Wickepin is closed.
