Brock Francis and Chloe Blight win Upper Great Southern Hockey Association A-grade fairest and best awards

Brock Francis and Chloe Blight have been crowned the best of the best in the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association A-grade competitions. The association held its awards night at the John Higgins building in Narrogin on Saturday night to celebrate its 2021 season. Francis, who plays for Riffs, won the men’s A-grade fairest and best award by three votes. He finished on 18 votes ahead of Warriors’ Nick Corner and Olympics’ Shawn Heil on 15 votes while Liam Sweeney from All Blacks was right there on 14. Blight, who plays for Williams, prevailed in a thrilling finish to the women’s A-grade count after edging out Warriors’ Chloe Buzza by a single vote. After the 15-round season, Blight received 28 votes to narrowly defeat Buzza on 27. Wagin’s Courtney Robinson and All Blacks’ Zeta O’Rouke rounded out the top four finishing with 15 and 14 votes respectively. Pingelly’s Blake Warburton took out the men’s B-grade fairest and best after earning 29 votes to defeat Kurt Wise from Woodanilling on 24. Wickepin’s Renae Bransby won the women’s B-grade fairest and best award on 28 votes ahead of Warriors’ Sarah Hennessey on 20. Regan Blyth was the highest goal scorer in the men’s A-grade competition while Buzza won the women’s award with 13 goals.
