Msgana Abebe: West Perth police pursuit ends in crash and discovery of drugs and weapons as 13 charges made

A stash of drugs and weapons was found in a car that crashed while trying to evade police in West Perth late on Friday, officers allege. Scarborough man Msgana Abebe, 36, was charged with 13 offences following his dramatic arrest, which came after a Dodge Nitro sedan he was allegedly driving slammed into two stationary vehicles. Police claim the vehicle was being driven recklessly and dangerously before the crash, at the intersection of Thomas Street and the Graham Farmer Freeway. The other vehicles were waiting at a red traffic light when they were struck. No one was injured. During a search of the sedan, police allegedly found 1.55 grams of methylamphetamine, a metal dagger with knuckle dusters built into its handle, and three double edged metal knives. Bail was not considered when Mr Abebe appeared before Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday. He was remanded in custody to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on February 20 for legal advice. Road Policing Group officers had initially tried to stop the sedan on Winthrop Avenue in Nedlands about 4.40pm on Friday. The alleged offences included failing to comply with a direction to stop, reckless driving to escape pursuit by police; no authority to drive; possession of a prohibited drug; possession of ammunition without a licence.
