SWFL women’s: Dunsborough show off big improvements in 42-point win over South Bunbury

Dunsborough showed they are shaping as one of the big improvers in the South West Football League women’s competition with a standout 42-point win over South Bunbury on Sunday.

The Sharks finished ninth last year with a percentage of just 23.9 but look well placed to beat last season’s win total of three after their impressive 7.8 (50) to 1.2 (8) performance.

A four-goal first quarter powered the win for the hosts, with Claudia Duane slotting three majors and Susan Isaacson smartly converting an opportunity from deep in the pocket.

After Duane opened her account with two thumping finishes, her third goal on the stroke of the siren was the quarter’s major highlight, finishing smartly after a brilliant gather from Isaacson below the knees.

Aided by some 50m penalties, the Tigers showed more attacking verve in the second term and got on the scoreboard when Jada Scott slotted a set shot, but the hosts quickly answered back through Alyssa Ward to maintain their buffer.

After an enthralling goalless third term that was played largely in South Bunbury’s front half, Duane booted her fourth at the top of the final quarter to seal the win for the Sharks, putting the icing on the cake just before the finish with her fifth.

Dunsborough’s midfield were dominant throughout the day, with Sarah Lang, Shelby Foster and Chloe McGill putting in big efforts.
