Cuballing community marks Anzac Day with tribute, reflection, hymns and shared breakfast at the tavern

In Cuballing, about a hundred people turned out to mark Anzac Day at the town’s newly refurbished war memorial on Thursday. Hymns were played and sung by Gladys Chattillon, Robin Newman and Pat McDougall, and Ries Chattillon led the community observance and paid tribute to the Anzac spirit. “Their action has forged a tradition of honour, valour, mateship, sacrifice and duty above self that has been adopted as embodying the key values of Australian national character,” he said. “We commemorate once again the veterans and the memory of those who laid down their lives in the service of their country, and seek inspiration from their example to develop in ourselves the same fine qualities. “Lest we forget.” After the service, the crowd crossed the street to enjoy a bacon and egg breakfast at the Cuballing Tavern.
