Bright blue skies and a lovely breeze greeted sailors for the opening the 2020-21 sailing season at Princess Royal Sailing Club on Saturday.

Club commodore Susette Evans welcomed the large crowd in the function room overlooking Princess Royal Harbour before Albany MLA Peter Watson officially opened the 112th PRSC season.

Junior training and racing was held in the morning before a light lunch on the sailor’s deck.

Guests then went upstairs to the official opening by Mr Watson, followed by an address by City of Perth chair commissioner and club member Andrew Hammond.

Hammond supported the club with their 2020-24 strategic plan process and spoke to the club about this development.

Evans said the day was a huge success.

“It was a great turnout, I was very impressed with the entire day,” she said.

“It was a really exciting day with many boats out on the water for our afternoon race to start the season.

“It was delightful to see all four fleets out on the water for afternoon racing.

“We haven’t seen this in the past few years so it was good to watch.”

The club is preparing to host the State Mirror Championship across three days in early January next year.

“This was meant to be a national event in January but due to COVID-19 it’s only a State event,” Evans said.

“We are hoping for 25-30 mirrors to come to Albany and sail in the harbour.”

PRSC will also host their annual Easter Regatta in April 2021.
