Major Freeway proves too strong in Denmark Cup to hand top trainer Hayden Reeves fitting finish to season

The popular Denmark Cup rounded out the Albany Harness Racing Club season as Major Freeway proved too strong for the field, winning under the guidance of leading trainer Hayden Reeves. Reeves was in the sulky as he guided Major Freeway to victory in the $11,000 MCC Contractors Denmark Cup (2265m) on February 20. The 10-year-old gelding jumped an $8.50 chance for Reeves, who had four other runners in the feature race at Harold Reid Paceway. Del Bocavista Bay from the Reeves stable and the Jeremy Thornton-trained Majic Bay started equal favourites at $4.20 in the field of 10. Charles Draper’s Funky Music ($13) led early in the event before Reeves put Major Freeway into the race to lead at the bell lap. Major Freeway found plenty in the concluding stages, sprinting home well for Reeves to win by 6.9m over a gallant Funky Music driven by Cody Wallrodt. Outsider chance Gota Good Warhol ($41) flooded home for Reeves and Wesley Andrews to grab third place 10.3m behind the winner. Reeves had Thomson Bay ($4.80) and Tubbs Farquhar ($9) finish fourth and fifth respectively. Majic Bay was seventh while Del Bocavista Bay faded out of the race to run ninth. Blind Edition won the Milton Gillingham Memorial (1832m) to hand Reeves a double. Driven by Cody Wallrodt, Blind Edition ($4.20) finished powerfully to down Shes All Go ($4.40) by a half-neck. Trainer David Goulden ended the season on a winning note, claiming a double. The Peter Morrison Memorial (1832) was taken out by Goulden pacer Sports Central ($4.60) with Joseph Suvaljko in the sulky, downing Heavenly Bliss by a short-half head. Goulden also won race three over 1832m with $2.20 favourite Alta Hurrah, who led all the way for Wallrodt. Reinsman Joseph Suvaljko won the Alan Murphy Memorial (2265m) with the Jemma Collins-trained Skip A Beat, bringing up the second leg of a double. Nevertellmethegoods prevailed in the Bill Kingston Memorial (1832m) by 2m, driven by Lachlan Kennelly and trained by Errol Ashcroft. Trainer Terry Dymock took the spoils in the Neville Drummond Memorial (1832m) to close out the 2025-26 local season, with Pura Vida ($10) holding out stablemate Down Tennessee ($18) by a neck.
