A childcare worker has been charged after allegedly assaulting a four-year-old boy at a NSW childcare centre.

Police allege a four-year-old boy was assaulted at a childcare centre on Paterson Rd at Bolwarra on June 24.

A woman, 22, was arrested at her Hunter Valley home about 1.30pm on Wednesday and was charged with common assault and child subjected to corporal punishment.

She was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before the Maitland Local Court on July 22.
