That’s goodbye from us
Thank you for joining us across the series as Australia have another dark day in Cape Town. What’s next for this team? Who knows but anyone will tell you it can all come apart very quickly.
Pat Cummins ‘overall happy’ despite defeat
“Really ebbed and flowed. Ending day three 4 for 40 in great position. Really tough day yesterday and made chasing today a tough task,” he says.
“Trend of this game was once you got yourself in, runs were on offer. We didn’t give ourselves a chance today.
“We came here thinking we are good enough to win, but we weren’t. Overall relatively happy.
“It comes down to the little moments. You wish you had the little moments - a catch went to hand or things like that. South Africa were better than us in those moments.”
Marco Jansen is playing of the series
He finished with 198 runs and 13 wickets.
“Very intense series. A lot of pressure, lot of ebbs and flows. Standing her tired but awesome series to be a part of.
“Takes a lot out of you, proud of the boys. Happy to have got the series win. Every ground had a different aspect to it.
“Had to adapt to a certain extent. Having to assess conditions and make your decisions was key. Making the right choice was harder. Every wicket was different.”
Simon Harmer is player of the match.
“The way Rabada took three wickets, after that it was about playing for a draw for them,” he says.
“To be able to bowl in that situation, guys around the bat, the theatre, creating pressure, goes a long way and makes my job easier.
“The wickets haven’t offered much time as expected on days four and five.”
“I try to bowl with control in the first innings and exploit and take wickets in the second. Was nice to just bowl freely and try to do your thing.”
Match Wrap
Another dark day for Australia as Proteas take famous series win.
ANALYSIS
Australia’s baffling batting collapse wasn’t a frightening new release but the latest offering from a tired franchise in desperate need of change.
ALL OVER! Harmer takes 10
Harmer has six and 10 for the match.
Classic off-spinner dismissal as the ball pitches on middle then turns past Hazlewood’s prod to take the top of off stump.
Dream delivery to end a dream series for the spinner finishing with 6-16.
Australia lose by 176 runs.
Harmer breaks the deadlock
Finally, South Africa break through, ending a stubborn 17-over partnership between Lyon and Cummins.
Harmer has five as he comes around the wicket and pitches in line to straighten and beat Cummins outside edge and take the back pad.
He reviews out of hope, but it’s clipping the top of middle and off.
Cummins falls for 11 off 90 balls. Harmer has 5-16.
Australia pass 100
Australia narrowly avoided some unwanted history as the ball bounces off the shoulder of an attempted Nathan Lyon sweep and runs for four.
Lyon now is the equal top scorer for the innings with 27.
He has a habit of top scoring in Australian batting disasters at Newlands.
Shot of the day
Nathan Lyon stands tall and drives through the covers for a rare boundary.
He followis it up with a pull for two then another push into the off-side for a brace
