Essendon receive picks 15, 25 and a 2028 second-round pick for the seven-time Essendon best and fairest.

The 2028 pick avoids Tasmania cannibalising the draft next year; it’s not too far off what the final offer for Merrett was last year.

The official paperwork should be lodged shortly.

After the drama of last year, it’s a huge deal to get through on day one.

Merrett deal imminent

This has progressed rapidly with the expectation that this could get done this afternoon.

Massive turnaround from last year and a few hours ago.

Positive talks on Merrett deal

Matt Rosa spoke earlier and would not guarantee a deal would get done, but it looks like there is positive progress being made for Zach Merrett.

The new deal on the table is reportedly picks 15, 25 and an upgraded third pick as per AFL.com’s Cal Twomey.
