Perth could face the coldest morning of 2026 this week, as residents are warned of heavy rainfall and another dramatic temperature drop.

Sandgropers hoping to enjoy the Anzac Day public holiday on Monday awoke to grey skies and pouring rain caused by a low pressure system moving across the city.

The cold front brought wet conditions to Perth, with weather stations across the metropolitan area recording 4mm of rainfall on Monday morning.

City dwellers weren’t the only ones who copped a drenching, with 11mm of rainfall falling across parts of the Mid West through the morning, according to data from Geraldton Airport’s weather station.

Weather experts predict the city could be hit with up to 25mm of rain through Monday afternoon.

Bureau meteorologist Jessica Lingard warns that the city is in for a wet couple of days.

“There is still a lot of rain on the radar — Perth is far from done with the rain,” Lingard said.

Monday’s downpour is only the beginning of a wild week, with wintry conditions persisting as the system continues to move towards the State’s south.

Rainfall will continue pummelling parts of the State until Wednesday, when conditions clear and the mercury will soar to a slightly warmer 23C .

The reprieve is only short lived however as a separate cold front is forecast to hit central and southern WA from Thursday, dropping temperatures to the single digits.

Ms Lingard said Sandgropers should consider bringing out the electric blankets and winter coats in preparation for the “really significant drop”.

“There’s fortunately not too much rain on the forecast for Thursday and Friday but there is definitely a big temperature drop,” she said.

“It could be the coldest morning we’ve seen so far in 2026.”

This year’s current record was set only last week with temperatures on Wednesday dropping to 7.6C, but Ms Lingard says the cold front could see even lower temperatures hit the city.

“It’s forecast to be just below 7C,” she said.

As the weekend hits, temperatures will raise to the mid-teens and skies will remain partly cloudy.
