VideoAussies are being warned of more deadly mushrooms growing in backyards and local parks as the weather cools down.

Winter is officially coming, with residents in Perth and WA’s south waking up to grey skies after an overnight cold front.

“The first significant cold front of the year” crossed the State on Monday night, bringing windy conditions and rainfall to residents across WA.

Heavy rainfall slammed the southern coastline, with 32.6mm of overnight rain drenching residents in Walpole.

Conditions were less soggy but more windy in the South West, where damaging gales quickly reached speeds in the triple digits.

The iconic Busselton Jetty faced a battering, as wind gusts up to 124km/hr hit the region.

The wind was less wild further north in the city, but Perth still endured some showers overnight.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s weather station at Perth Airport reported 4.8mm of rainfall near the aviation hub through Monday night, while a separate station in the Perth Hills similarly reported 5.1mm of overnight precipitation.

Although the cold front has waned and the rain has eased up for now, the Bureau has warned there is still a 50 per cent chance of showers over the Perth region throughout Tuesday afternoon.

The severe thunderstorm warning in place for WA’s South West and Great Southern regions was cancelled on Tuesday morning, but gale force winds are still expected to pummel the areas.

On Tuesday, a strong wind warning was issued for residents along the southern coast, with those near Albany and Esperance warned that the wind could reach speeds between 66 and 83km/h.

Winter lovers in Perth excited to kick off the year’s coldest season may have to wait a bit longer, however, as the dreary weather is expected to transform into clear skies by Wednesday.

The Bureau forecasts that the sunshine will re-emerge and bring a maximum temperature of 22C to Perth.

But conditions will change again in the city on Thursday morning with forecasts predicting up to 6mm of rain.
