The male driver of a truck carrying asbestos that collided with a sedan and rolled on Reid Highway has been raced to Royal Perth Hospital under lights and sirens after an extrication operation.
Four St John Ambulance units, as well as DFES and police, responded to the crash in West Swan heading eastbound on Reid Highway, before West Swan Road.
The Mitsubishi Lancer and a Hino Truck collided just before 7.30am Thursday morning.
A second patient, a woman in her teens, was taken by road to St John of God Midland Public Hospital.
Crews managed to free the driver from the rolled truck about 7.50am.
Police say the truck was carrying asbestos, which they believed to be “contained”.
The driver was treated by St John Ambulance at the scene, with paramedics also tending to the driver of the other vehicle.
A specialist from St John, plus DFES crews from Kiara and Midland were deployed to the scene to assist with the driver’s extrication.
Reid Highway eastbound is closed from Drumpellier Drive to West Swan Road and motorists are urged to seek an alternate route and expect significant delays.
More to come.
