WA weather: Intense thunderstorms to bring heavy rain to eastern interior as mercury climbs in Perth

Parts of inland WA are set to be battered by severe thunderstorms and heavy rain in the coming hours.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a storm alert at 2.48pm, warning residents in the north and south interior to prepare for a heavy dose of rain that could lead to flash flooding.
“Slow moving showers and thunderstorms are continuing to develop within a very humid airmass along a trough lying through the eastern inland of WA,” the warning read.
“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.
“Locations which may be affected include Kiwirrkurra.”

Emergency WA is advising people in affected parts of the Pilbara to tie down furniture or other loose items, prepare a first-aid kit and review their emergency plan.
Further south, Perth is preparing for the mercury to climb into the mid-thirties on Wednesday.
The city will continue to turn up the heat on Thursday, with a top of 36C forecast for the metro area.
