Campfire Country’s David and Therese Higginson and looking forward to bringing bands, music and dance to the Wickepin Town Hall from June 23-25 for a weekend of family fun and fundraising. “It’s a lovely hall they’ve got in Wickepin and we’ve always been well supported by the Shire,” Mr Higginson said. “When we first went there and saw their dance hall we thought we’ve got to use this, it’s got a beautiful floor and great acoustics.” Ms Higginson said that the pair have organised concerts and dances at halls and shows throughout the Great Southern, South West and Wheatbelt region gaining them solid following. “We’ve got people coming from Albany, Geraldton — they’ll all come and meet us in Wickepin.” Mr Higginson said that he was hoping for a good turnout at the event that will include a fundraising luncheon for St John WA on Saturday. “It’ll feature good old-style country music and old-fashioned dancing,” he said. “It’s all about getting people to come and experience dancing in another town’s beautiful hall, getting people together and having a good time.” The weekend will start on Friday night with a dance at the Wickepin Town Hall from 7.30pm featuring old time dance music performed by Campfire Country. Saturday will see dance sessions take place at the hall from 10am to 4pm with music being provided by guest artists. The Saturday night concert will start at 7pm and the weekend will finish on Sunday with another dance session that will run from 9.30-11.30am. Ms Higginson encouraged newcomers to come along to the Saturday and Sunday dance sessions regardless of experience. “Come and give it a go,” she said. Tickets for each event will be on sale at the door and tickets for the Saturday fundraising luncheon will be available at the Friday night concert.
