Upper Great Southern Cricket Association gears up for shot at A-section glory at senior country week

The Upper Great Southern Cricket Association will send two competitive sides to men’s senior country week in Perth, when it begins on Sunday, including a strong A-section side. The annual five-day tournament runs from January 14-19 and the UGSCA will send an A-section and E-section side to the tournament. Both teams will play three one-day matches between Sunday and Wednesday in the hope of qualifying for the semifinals on Thursday, before the grand finals on Friday. A-section will aim to improve on last year’s campaign when they finished with just one win from their three group-stage matches. Towns gun batter Arron Quartermaine will captain the Perth-bound A-section side. Quartermaine has been dominant so far this season, scoring 444 runs at an average of 88.8 including three centuries. UGSCA A-section will take on the newly promoted West Pilbara in round one, followed by reigning premiers Bunbury and Districts at Abbett Park in round two. Their last fixture will come against Geraldton at College Park East. UGSCA ladder-leaders Wandering are the highest represented with five players selected to tour in the A-section side. Kukerin-Dumbleyung’s David Head will again captain the UGSCA E-section side. The E-section team faces Peel Country 2 at Coker Park in round one, Bunbury and Districts 5 at Hamer Park in round two and then Esperance 3 at Britannia Reserve in round three.
