UGSHA Hockey WA Regional Development Weekend sees good turnout ahead of 2023 season

About 100 people gathered in Narrogin for the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association Hockey WA Regional Development Weekend. Training and skill development sessions for players from all divisions took place on February 10-11 and newly appointed UGSHA president Claire Coffey said the successful weekend bodes well for the upcoming 2023 season. “The weekend was a fantastic experience for many of our local hockey players, comparative to what their city counterparts get exposed to,” she said. “Hockey is already one of the most popular sports in the Upper Great Southern and we’re looking at how we can create more opportunities for our future Hockeyroos and Kookaburras.” The day kicked off at 8.30am with 16 Kindy to Year 1 players taking to the turf for a Hookin2Hockey session before a series of open training sessions catering for junior, senior and adult players took place. Sprinklers kept players and coaches cool and an evening barbecue at Bevan George Stadium gave everyone a chance to socialise. “It was a credit to the hockey community that such great numbers came down to learn from some of the best coaches in the heat,” Ms Coffey said. “The turnout was a very positive sign for the upcoming season.” Registration for the 2024 junior season opens on February 13 and the registration link is available on the UGSHA Facebook page. Seniors interested in playing need to get in touch with a club before February 24 and a list of clubs is also available via ugshockey.
