Sensorium Theatre’s Whoosh! headed to Narrogin to take Wheatbelt kids on an off-world adventure

Sensorium Theatre’s interactive space adventure experience Whoosh! is headed to Narrogin in June for a series of shows that will see children climb aboard a rocket ship and explore space. “In Whoosh! a crew arrives in your town and lands their spaceship and the captain and her team invite kids to enlist as cadets and come help fly the ship,” Sensoirum Theatre’s artistic director Frankie Italiano said. “The kids are part of the story which is an exciting thing and very unique.” An immersive experience three years in the making, Whoosh! will take Wheatbelt kids on a voyage that will see them encounter strange planets and foods, glowing ultraviolet slime and alien space eggs. “There’s something about the great unknown that draws kids in,” Mr Italiano said. “The galaxy is like a gateway to the imagination and I think that’s why it has always held a fascination. “Our work is really about inviting curiosity and I think curiosity is probably a key part of scientific endeavour.” Another key aspect of the production is that is was created to be suitable for children over the age of five with a broad range of needs, including those on the autism spectrum. “We’re really Australia’s only company that is making work specifically thinking about kids that might be less able to sit quietly in the dark like at a traditional show,” Mr Italiano said. “We say it’s designed for kids with additional needs in mind and their friends, it appeals to all kids and each kid is an active participant, each kid is a part of the story.” Presented by Arts Narrogin the unique show will run at the Narrogin Town Hall from June 20-23.
