Riffs edge out Olympics
Riffs recorded a tight 2-1 win over Olympics in the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association’s men’s A-grade competition.
Wade Angwin scored both of the goals for the Riffs in Saturday’s game, while Roger Ballard, and Brock and Grady Francis were the team’s best.
Jeff Short converted Olympics’ only goal, with McKenzie Dalton, Steve Sexton and Nathan Squibb voted best on the team.
Warriors and All Blacks drew 2-2 in their clash on Saturday.
Max Evans and Jack Robinson beat the All Blacks’ keeper, with Evans also voted Warriors’ best along with Chris Allan and Nick Conner.
All Blacks’ David Phillips converted one goal and was the team’s best, with Angus Armstrong and Liam Sweeney assisting on the field.
Andrew Bairstow scored the second goal for All Blacks.
In the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association’s women’s A-grade match, Wagin got the better of Warriors with a 1-0 win.
Wagin’s Leah Kellow both beat the keeper and led the team across the turf, along with Sharni Chiswell and Vanessa Perkins.
Emily Ballantyne, Kira Flynn and Tayla Atkins were Warrior’s best. In the second women’s A-grade game, Williams’ pulled off a 2-1 victory over Robins.
Brooke Duff and Renae Bransby converted a goal each and were voted Williams’ best with Cristie Lock. Jodie George, Chloe Blight and Zeta O’Rourke were Robins’ best on turf, with George also scoring the team’s only goal.
