Narrogin school holiday program embraces NAIDOC Week early with Aboriginal dance, dress, activities, and art

The Narrogin school holiday program embraced NAIDOC Week early with Indigenous games, dance, dress, and activities for students and their families. The event, Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud, organised by the Southern Aboriginal Corporation in collaboration with the Shire of Narrogin, was the first of many for the upcoming NAIDOC Week. John Higgens Centre was buzzing with children, parents and grandparents who participated in activities such as rock painting, Aboriginal-style art, and biscuit and cupcake decorating inspired by the Aboriginal flag to promote First Nations engagement. Cultural floor art and eucalyptus leaves embellished one end of the room beside a microphone stand where the opening ceremony and a Shooting Stars dance performance were held. A sponge cake was garnished with red icing that read Keep the Fire Burning. Blak, Loud, and Proud and was served with a free lunch to honour the event and the spirit of Narrogin’s Aboriginal community.
