IN PICTURES: West Coast Eagles legends Jeremy McGovern and Glen Jakovich take kids clinics in Narrogin

A visit from recently retired West Coast Eagles champion Jeremy McGovern and fellow club legend Glen Jakovich had football fans flocking to Narrogin on Friday.
Young footballers from around the Wheatbelt had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train alongside McGovern and Jakovich on Friday afternoon at Clayton Road Oval.
After the junior clinic masterclass, jumpers, footballs and boots were signed by the Eagles legends they often only see on television.
Jakovich said he hoped they could influence the kids to “strive to be the best they can be”.
“It’s an opportunity to influence the children about good habits, good lifestyle choices, keeping it fun, keeping it real, it’s all part of giving back to the community,” he said.
“If I can put that glitter in their eye that they can pursue a sport or activity in their lives, that’s their passion, you can promote and endorse it.”
Growing up in Albany, McGovern said visiting a regional town “feels like coming home”.
He said he will always took the opportunity to show regional kids that anything is possible.

“Being in a regional town they might feel a bit disconnected, so I think the least we can do is try and come out here and give back to the kids, the community and all our fans,” McGovern said.
“I remember when players came out where I used to live, just them showing up it was enough to give me some inspiration and hopefully some of the kids today took a bit of that.”
The Narrogin Hawks Football Club hosted the Celebrating Gov event from 7pm, where the two AFL champs shared stories and highlights of their career, premiership wins and helped fundraise for the local club.
Jakovich said meeting community members that had remembered games he played decades ago reminds him how much impact the AFL and club had on people and the importance of interacting with those “devoted and passionate supporters”.
