About 100 people gathered at the John Higgins Community Centre on Thursday to celebrate the inaugural Narrogin Thank a Volunteer Event and Expo. Volunteers from a range of community and emergency groups shared information and laughs at the event, with expo-goers enjoying an evening rich in community spirit. Shire of Narrogin community development officer Regina Razumovskaya welcomed everyone before shire councillor Roxanne McNabb officially opened proceedings at 6pm. “Today we celebrate the vital connections between our valued volunteers, local organisations and our newest members of the Narrogin family,” she said. “Volunteering has always been at the core of our community’s identity — volunteers have stood at the forefront answering the call through bushfire emergencies, orchestrating unforgettable community events and diligently preserving our tourist attractions.” Representatives from a variety of groups then took to the podium to speak about their projects and local band Ma Baker kept the crowd entertained.
