Flickerfest returning to Narrogin in May with three nights of shorts screening at new venue Thornton Theatre

The Flickerfest 2024 National Tour will hit Narrogin in May, with three nights of new offerings screening at the Thornton Theatre. It will be the first time the festival has been held at the Thornton and a range of Australian and international short films promise to wow the Wheatbelt South. Things will start on May 2 with the Best Of International Shorts, a selection of films including Himalayan filmmaker Shenzin Tangkong’s Last Days of Summer, Swedish PC-comedy The Film Might Be White, and UK drama My Week With Maisey starring Joanna Lumley. May 3 will be a local affair as Best Of Australian Shorts brings three WA productions to town: Kaleb McKenna’s Raising Thunder, Noongar/Spinifex woman Tace Steven’s documentary To Be Silent, and Esperance To Fremantle, a father-son drama written and directed by William Sebastian Turner. A Q&A session with Turner and producer Cameron Whiteford will take place in the theatre after the screening. On May 4, the Short Laughs Comedy program will bring the festival to a close with a showcase of the quirky and the funny. Irish short Cantana, UK comedian Joe Lycett’s Linda, and NZ film Good Luck all come highly recommended. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start, and tickets can be booked via the Arts Narrogin website.
