Flick the switch: Shires of Williams and Dumbleyung share in $30,000 Club Night Lights Program grant

Member for the Agricultural Region Shelley Payne has announced that three Wheatbelt recreational facilities will benefit from a $630,000 Club Night Lights Program grant being awarded to 13 projects in WA. The Shire of Williams will receive $3400 to fund a 15 LED 100 lux lighting upgrade in the town’s ram shed and $27,000 has been allocated to the Shire of Dumbleyung to undertake LED 50 lux upgrades at ovals in Dumbleyung and Kukerin. “Sport in regional communities is such an important part of our lives,” Ms Payne said. “The Club Night Lights Program is a great way to ensure sport can be played at any time of the day. “It’s great to see that regional communities such as Dumbleyung, Kukerin and Williams will reap the benefits of this funding.” The WA Government program is aimed at increasing community participation in sport through the provision of infrastructure and Minister for Sports and Recreation David Templeman said that he hoped that the grants would see an increase in facility use. “The Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund and Club Night Lights Program provide financial assistance to community groups to help them provide good quality and well-utilised facilities,” he said. “This allows sporting and recreation clubs to attract new members whilst giving existing members upgraded or more modern facilities. “It encourages people to stay active, which promotes better health and wellbeing.” The 2023/24 small grants round that will fund the Wheatbelt lighting upgrades closes on August 31 and further information on the program can be found on the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries website. “I look forward to seeing the infrastructure improvements,” Mr Templeman said. “Especially in regional areas where sporting and recreation facilities provide a hive of activities for local communities to connect and grow.”
