Come clean the creek with Crossley and enjoy a barbie at the Gnarogin Community Garden

Gnarojin Community Garden members will roll up their sleeves to clean up a stretch of Gnarojin Creek this month and everyone is invited to come down and bog in. The clean-up behind the community garden on Hale Street on March 10 will be followed by a Neighbour Day barbecue. Community garden member Ned Crossley said the event is a great opportunity for people to get together. “We adopted the spot through the Keep Australia Beautiful Council about five years ago,” he said. “Last year we cleaned up about 15 bags of rubbish. “It’s people-dependent — if we get a lot of people, we’ll be right.” Last year, the clean-up crew was mostly made up of community garden members but the group has teamed up with the Shire of Narrogin to promote this year’s event and hopes to see a good turnout. The clean-up usually happens in August to coincide with Keep Australia Beautiful Week but March will give the group a chance to get among it while the water level is low. Creek cleaners will gather at the community garden from about 9.30am before they are split into groups and sent out to get the job done. Volunteers are advised to bring water to carry, waterproof boots, hats and sunscreen. “We’ve got some gloves but if you’ve got your own favourite gloves bring them down, and make sure you’ve got boots of some kind,” Mr Crossley said. After about an hour and a half of work, the bags will be heaped and the free Neighbour Day barbecue will take place at 12.30pm.
