Dazzling Santas, elves and reindeer are lighting up the streets of Narrogin and Highbury as families prepare for the Shire of Narrogin Christmas lights competition.

The competition has been spreading Christmas cheer for the past five years, and this year the Shire of Narrogin will be awarding prizes for the best displays.

Drive-by judging will occur between December 13 and 17, with residents asked to keep their front yards aglow from 7pm-9pm.

Shire president Leigh Ballard said registration was not required, the competition was open to everyone who had a display in their front yard, and everyone had a chance to win.

“By encouraging neighbours to get out and about, chat with one another and share in the spirit of Christmas, we can build relations that help grow our community,” he said.

There will be three winners who will each receive Narrogin Chamber of Commerce vouchers, with first place winning $250, second place $200, and third place $150.

The vouchers are redeemable for goods or services at any of the businesses which are members of the Narrogin Chamber of Commerce.

The Narrogin CBD has been lighting up the night since the start of the month, with new decorations lining Federal Street.

The winners of the Christmas lights competition will be announced at the next council meeting on December 18.
