Australian Baroque presents Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in Narrogin on period instruments

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons is set to play in Narrogin with audiences treated to the wistful Baroque melodies recreated on period instruments that were once played by their 18th-century composer. The Australian Baroque will present Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on Baroque period instruments as old as 1650 at the Narrogin Town Hall on September 28 as part of a regional tour. The unique concert offers an immersive experience for audiences with the musicians reading Vivaldi’s poetry between the music detailing what inspired each piece. Narrogin experienced the wistful sounds of the ensemble in February earlier this year for the performance Bach and Beer and the Australian Baroque has completed a residency in town. Artistic director and violinist Helen Kruger said the Australian Baroque was the only ensemble performing the Four Seasons on period instruments in Western Australia and described the music as “fun, intense and beautiful”. “Playing Baroque instruments gives an insight into what Vivaldi was trying to do with the music and the sound world so it’s a different way of playing the music,” she said. “We’re using what we know from musical language, musical interpretation and music performance from that period to inspire performance.” Since its formation in December 2018, the orchestra has produced numerous creative projects and immersive performances. The Australian Baroque will host a workshop for Narrogin High School students the afternoon of the performance and audience members will have a chance to speak with ensemble members after the concert.
