Arthur River crash: Two people escape injury after car hits tree and catches fire in Wheatbelt South

A man and a woman in their 50s have escaped injury after the car they were travelling in hit a tree and caught fire south of Arthur River on Monday night. The crash on Boyup Brook-Arthur Road and Clarke Road was reported to emergency services about 7.30pm, with crews from Wagin Volunteer Fire Rescue Service, Arthur River Bushfire Brigade and Duranillin Bushfire Brigade deployed. When they arrived, the two occupants of the white Toyota Camry had escaped before it caught alight and sparked a fire in nearby bushland. Emergency services extinguished the blaze. The man and woman, both in their 50s, were not seriously injured but were taken to Narrogin Hospital by St John WA as a precaution. The RAC rescue helicopter was engaged to respond to the accident but later stood down. A 22-year-old man died at the scene of a crash in South Lake Grace last week. Police said the man left Pingrup at 10pm on Friday and his Toyota LandCruiser tray top ute was later found off Mallee Hill Road in South Lake Grace. The incident is believed to have happened between 10pm on Friday and 9.15am on Saturday.
