Anthony Brain: Nudist Bunbury masseur who sexually assaulted 13 clients jailed for 15 years and six months

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT A Bunbury masseur who sexually assaulted more than a dozen clients during their therapy sessions has been jailed for 15 years and six months. Anthony Brain fought 36 charges of sexual penetration without consent, indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault at a two-month District Court of WA trial late last year. Two initial complainants sparked a stream of others to come forward, and a jury found him guilty of 25 offences against 13 victims. The 39-year-old forced fellatio on the first victim, telling her as she left that he knew she would love his “special service” and to come back soon. The second victim could not escape his molestation as she suffers muscular dystrophy and is confined to a wheelchair. The crimes were committed at the Nomadic Masseur clinic, which was marketed and presented as offering therapeutic remedial massage. The women were seeking either relaxation or treatment for pain but were instead violated. Brain called digital penetration “pelvic floor massage” and described rubbing their breasts as “lymphatic drainage massage”. He told the women about living a nudist colony and being sexually liberated, and claimed in graphic detail on the witness stand that he had engaged in mutual touching with a complainant on his massage table. One complainant told the trial that she “felt frozen and very awkward and didn’t know what was going on” when Brain touched her vagina without permission. “I knew it was wrong but (was) just staring at the roof and waiting for it all to finish,” she said. She said Brain said she signed a form permitting Brain to massage her breasts, but not “the way he was doing it”. ”I felt very like, in shock, at what had just happened. There was so much of it that was inappropriate.” Brain was sentenced on Tuesday and will be eligible for parole after serving 13 years and six months behind bars.
